Advice on claiming Statutory Sick Pay

Should you be absent from work due to sickness, you must inform you consultant at least one hour before your shift is due to start on every day of your absence.

You may be entitled to claim for Statutory Sick Pay depending on you meeting the following criteria.

  • If you are absent for 7 days or more then you must provide us with a ‘fit note’, formerly known as a sick note, from your Doctor or Hospital.
  • For absences under 7 days, you will need to provide us with a self-certification form. A PDF of this form is available to download below.

What you will receive:

  • If you meet the qualification criteria as above, then you will receive £123.25 per week.
  • This is paid weekly in the same manner that your wages are paid to you.
  • All SSP is subject Tax and National Insurance contributions.
  • You will be paid for the days that you normally work each week.
  • You can claim SSP for a maximum of 28 weeks.

*The continuation of an Assignment is dependent on the Agency Worker being available to perform the services required.

Where the Agency Worker is absent due to illness for a prolonged or ongoing period, or where their illness prevents them from performing the duties required for the Assignment, the Employment Business reserves the right to bring the Assignment to an end with immediate effect.

Termination of an Assignment due to sickness absence does not give rise to any obligation on the Employment Business to provide alternative work or to continue the Assignment, and does not affect any statutory rights that may apply up to the date the Assignment ends.*
