Recruitment Solutions are working with a market leading business in Didcot and are looking for a Canteen Assistant to join the team within their onsite canteen areas.
This role involves working a Sunday–Thursday pattern, 5 days per week. Candidates require a minimum of Level 2 Food Safety & Allergy Awareness certifications; however, training can be provided by Recruitment Solutions at no cost.
The Canteen Assistant job in Didcot involves supporting the daily operation of our client’s canteen facilities, ensuring efficient food service and maintaining high standards of hygiene and customer satisfaction. About the role
As a Canteen Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Assist with food preparation, ensuring all items are prepared according to safety standards and quality expectations.
- Serve meals and beverages to staff and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the canteen area, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces and disposing of waste appropriately.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with restocking supplies as needed.
- Upsell menu items to maximise sales opportunities while providing excellent customer service.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations at all times.
- Handle cash transactions accurately and balance tills at the end of shifts.
- Support kitchen staff during busy periods by preparing ingredients or assisting with basic food tasks.
- Manage time effectively to ensure timely service during peak hours.
About you
Previous experience in a restaurant or catering environment is preferred but not essential; training will be provided.
For this Canteen Assistant position, candidates require:
- Minimum Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene and Allergy Awareness certification (training can be provided).
- Knowledge of food safety standards and procedures is desirable.
- Basic maths skills for handling cash transactions accurately.
- Experience in food preparation, serving or kitchen work is advantageous.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time efficiently during busy periods.
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly manner when interacting with colleagues and customers.
- Ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive attitude with attention to cleanliness and hygiene standards.
