Demand for Construction Workers Rising in the North West

Over the past year, the demand for Construction Worker Recruitment in Manchester and across the North West has increased by 3% in the 12 months up to February 2016. This exciting news looks to be primarily down to an influx of major renovation projects throughout Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside, all of which will be worth a total of a massive £114.36bn (if recent reports are correct) over the next 4 years.

This data, which has been provided by recruitment software company Innovantage, revealed that a number of sectors are experiencing considerable growth, with the engineering and construction sectors in particular showing increases of 31% and 13% year-on-year respectively.

Whilst the North West has seen a great deal of construction projects over recent years, before 2015 levels of growth had been pretty much unheard of with employment levels remaining fairly level. With this recent lack of growth, the mounting concerns over Brexit and the collapse of oil prices, this sensational turn of events has really kick started a new level of excitement amongst skilled workers across the North of the UK

Commenting on the data, Moya Rylands, membership relations manager at APSCo, said:

“Although hiring sentiment is clearly being influenced by uncertainty in the global market we are seeing signs of positive growth in the region.”

She added: “Demand for professionals in the construction sector has increased by 13% year-on-year, a trend that is likely to continue as a number of improvements to infrastructure across the North West are greenlit and get underway.

“A recent report from Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) claims that 22,500 new construction jobs will be created in the North West by 2020.

“The research also indicates that the North West can expect to see an annual growth rate of 2.6% in total construction output, slightly higher than that of the entire UK – which is extremely positive news for the region.”
